Possible Cyberattack Hits Seattle-Tacoma International Airport Causing Massive Delays
A potential cyberattack has caused significant disruptions at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA), leading to widespread delays and cancellations. The Port of Seattle reported an “internet and web systems outage” on Saturday morning, triggering a cascade of issues that affected airport operations throughout the day.
In an official statement, SEA authorities indicated that the outage might be linked to a cyberattack, prompting immediate action to isolate critical systems. “Earlier this morning, the Port of Seattle experienced certain system outages indicating a possible cyberattack,” the statement read. “The Port isolated critical systems and is in the process of working to restore full service.”

As of 8 p.m. ET on Saturday, a total of 247 flights had been delayed, and six flights were canceled, according to data from FlightAware. The situation has left many passengers frustrated and uncertain about their travel plans.
While SEA continues to work on restoring full operational capacity, the airport has not provided a clear timeline for when services will return to normal. In the meantime, authorities are advising travelers to check with their airlines for the latest updates on their flights and to allow extra time for navigating the airport.
“We are working closely with appropriate authorities and partners to help travelers who may be impacted,” SEA officials said. “If you are traveling today, please check with our airline partners for travel information and allow extra time to get to SEA and to your gate.”
Travelers are also encouraged to use mobile boarding passes and check baggage through airline apps before arriving at the airport to streamline their experience during this challenging time.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has declined to comment on the delays, directing inquiries to SEA authorities.
As investigations into the possible cyberattack continue, the incident highlights the growing vulnerability of critical infrastructure to cyber threats, underscoring the need for enhanced security measures in the aviation sector.
Travelers should stay informed of further developments and continue to monitor their flight statuses closely as SEA works to resolve the issue.
